Synopsis of the talk:
The digital thread refers to the communication framework that allows a connected data flow and integrated view of the asset’s data throughout its lifecycle across traditionally siloed functional perspectives. The digital thread concept raises the bar for delivering “the right information to the right place at the right time”.
This is a trending concept (along with Digital Twin) which has not simply emerged out of no where. It is based on older models but leverages state of the art technology. In the case of Digital Thread, it has its origins in PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) which is a system based on a class of software which facilitates the enterprise processes for managing BOMs, Changes, Supplier Management and connection to ERP.
These new technologies face multiple challenges, but the benefits are particularly attractive leading many companies to invest in moving forward with them.
The key focus areas of this talk was on Digital Thread related to :
- How Industry 4.0 is transforming Manufacturing industries through end-to-end integration around IT-OT integration. - Integrated systems from Design, Manufacture to Service is possible through Digital Thread.
- How “As Designed” versus “As Operated” is possible for manufactured equipment.
