The International Society of Automation conducted its annual technical fest SPARK'19 from February 22, 2019 to February 24, 2019. The fest started with inauguration ceremony on February 22, 2019 in Kamaraj Auditorium at 5 pm. The ceremony was graced by our chief guest Dr. Ellangovan K. , Principal Secretary to the Govt. of Kerala. The Guest of Honor for the ceremony was Mr. Rajesh Rathi, District Vice President, ISA D-14. We were honored to have other dignitaries for the ceremony including Dean - SELECT, Director of Student Welfare, VIT, Dr. Vivekanandan S., Faculty Advisor ISA-VIT, and Dr. Arulmozhivarman Sir.
The inauguration ceremony was followed by an inspirational guest lecture by our chief guest Dr. Ellangovan K. He talked about the equality in opportunity and loop holes in the education system that needs to be reviewed. He motivated the audience to be a leader and take initiative. He had a firm vision about the education system that should be implemented and his lecture inspired the audience. He also talked about automation and its pros and cons. Overall, he ignited a spark in everyone.
Further, ISA-VIT conducted two workshops - Wifibotics and Augmented Reality & 3D Game Development in TT Gallery 1 & 2 respectively on February 23 & 24, 2019 from 9 am to 5 pm. Both the workshops were conducted by professional trainers of RoboKart, a renowned company that usually conducts workshops in top IITs. The workshops were divided in 4 sessions. On February 23, 2019, first two sessions of both the workshops were conducted in which the participants were taught from the basics of the respective domains. Both the workshops were attended by hundreds of externals and internal participants. The participants were provided with take away kits and softwares. The session 2 of workshops were followed by guest lecture by Mr. Bobby Mathen Varghese K, CIO & Director, Qruize Technologies Pvt. Ltd. He talked about primitiveness of the Digital World and the need for governance.
Furthermore, on February 24, 2019, in last two sessions of both the workshops the participants were taught about the applications of the things they learned in the workshop. The participants had hand on experience in the things they were taught in the workshop and by the end of workshops, as a part of competition, they developed their own projects. The top three teams were provided with merit certificates by RoboKart Company.
Moreover, the International Society of Automation also conducted the final round of iHack in CS Hall on February 24, 2019 from 9 am to 5 pm. The top 10 teams selected for the final round of iHack were initially reviewed by the panel of Judges consisting of : Mr. Rajshekhar Uchil, Membership Chair, ISA District 14 and Deputy General Manager - JECL, Mr. Ram Kerur, CEO & Director of Sunlux Technologies, Mr. Ahamed Kabeer, Chief Technical Officer-Altsense, and Mr. Muhammad Sirajuddeen - Full Stack Developer - Verizon, and suggested the required changes. In the final presentation, the teams presented their projects to the panel of judges and hence, were evaluated by the judges.
Subsequently, the International Society of Automation, VIT conducted Valedictory Ceremony of SPARK'19 in TT Gallery 1 on February 24, 2019 at 5 30 pm. Dr. Upendra Nath Singh, NASA Technical Fellow for Sensors and Instrumentation presided over the ceremony. The other dignitaries including Dean-SELECT, Mr. Rajshekhar Uchil, Mr. Ram Kerur, Mr. Ahamed Kabeer, Mr. Muhammad Sirajuddeen, and Dr. Arulmozhivarman Sir graced the ceremony. Mementos were provided to the guests by the faculty advisor of ISA-VIT Dr. Vivekanandan S. Sir.
The ceremony was followed by a very interesting and informative guest lecture by Dr. Upendra N Singh on Active Optical Remote Sensing sensors and Instrumentation for NASA's Future Earth and Space Science. Basically, his motive was to introduce and inculcate interest in students about LiDAR. He explained how LiDAR can be used to measure various things like topography of Earth, Ozone layers, Clouds, Gases, etc. that can be used to observe and anticipate the natural calamities. Later, he shared about his journey to NASA and motivated students to pursue their dreams with full enthusiasm. Finally, the results for iHack were announced and the top three teams were awarded cash prize of INR 15000, INR 10000, and INR 5000, respectively along with gift hampers. The SPARK'19 concluded with the vote of thanks by Mr. Devesh Dembla, Administrative Head, ISA-VIT.
